Diet soda is good because it has no calories, right? Many people feel that because there are no calories in diet soda, they can drink all they want and it doesn’t affect their diet. In truth, diet sodas may be just as bad for you, if not worse than regular soda. Many of us crave sugar. If diet sodas are tricking our taste buds into thinking that we are drinking something sweet, but we don’t get a rise in out blood glucose levels, we can crave more sweets. This can cause us to eat more sugary foods and snacks as a result. New studies are also linking diet sodas to an increased risk of stroke and heart attacks. Many people who drink diet sodas also have sensitivity to aspartame, which can cause a slew of side effects including headaches, nausea, and fatigue.
I don’t know about you, but the negative aspects of consuming diet sodas seems to outweigh the small amount of pleasure you receive from drinking them. If you are concerned enough about your diet to drink something with zero calories, I suggest doing was is best for you and drinking a large glass of water instead.
